The playoffs allowed the hockey world to see just how good Anze Kopitar is. (U.S. Pre swire) Previously at Eye On Hockey: | | || | | 10 Wade Boggs Jersey . , 2011-12 box score stats: 59 games, 29 goals, 28 a sists, 57 points2011-12 advanced stats: 1.011 Corsi Quality Competition, plus-14.6 Corsi Relative, 993 PDOI'm not going to lie -- it took me longer than most to jump on the Jonathan Toews bandwagon. He always struck me as a really good player, but I wanted to see a little more offensive production from him before I put him at this level (and, over the past two years, he has definitely shown that). I also think his defensive game was a little overstated at times (it's not that he's bad, but I didn't want to put him on the same level as guys like Pavel Datsyuk, Ryan Kesler or even Patrice Bergeron), as was the way the Blackhawks' coaching staff used him. He was usually given credit for having to go up against other teams' best players, and this was especially true during their Stanley Cup run in 2010. Until this past season, that wasn't really the reality; Chicago typically used Dave Bolland in that role. But during the past two seasons, Toews has taken his game to another level as his offensive game has spiked. This past season, his best year in the league production-wise, came when he faced the toughest compeition that he has faced on a nightly basis. He's also an ace in the faceoff circle. 9. , , Henrik 2011-12 box score stats: 82 games, 14 goals, 67 a sists, 81 pointsDaniel 2011 Gleyber Torres Jersey -12 box score stats:72 games, 30 goals, 37 a sists, 67 pointsHenrik 2011-12 advanced stats:.328 Corsi Quality Competition, plus-18.1 Corsi Relative, 1024 PDODaniel 2011-12 advanced stats: .363 Corsi Quality Competition, plus-22.5 Corsi Relative, 1009 PDO Yeah, well ... it's my list, and I'll do what I want with it. It's next to impo sible to separate Henrik and Daniel Sedin. They're identical in almost every way, other than the fact that Daniel scores most of the goals and Henrik sets most of them up.They even take a drink on the bench the same way.On their own, they're both very good. Excellent, even. When they're together, they're pretty much unstoppable offensively and more productive than just about any other duo in the NHL. They have identical .84 point-per-game averages in the league, and they've both won a scoring title. Henrik has won an MVP award, while Daniel has won the Ted Lindsay Award, which goes to the most outstanding player as voted by the players. Which one is better? Flip a coin, and you will win either way.Let's take a look at the table below and compare their numbers when together and when apart over the past five seasons just to see how identical they are and how good they are together. We're looking at goal percentage (GF% -- the percentage of goals scored by the Canucks when each player is on the ice) and Corsi Percentage (CF% -- the percentage of attempted shots taken by the Canucks when each player is on the ice).Data via .Henrik And Daniel Sedin: Together And Apart: Past Five SeasonsPlayerCorsi % TogetherCorsi % ApartGF % TogetherGF % ApartHenrik Sedin.572.460.638.515Daniel Sedin.572.464.638.500 8. , 2011-12 box score stats: 82 games, 25 goals, 51 a sists, 76 points2011-12 advanced stats: 1.175 Corsi Quality Competition, plus-13.8 Corsi Relative, 994 PDO Playing his entire career on the West Coast for a team that, while in a major media market, never really accomplished anything on the ice, helped to hide what a sensational player Anze Kopitar has been for six years. That all changed during the 2011-12 season, specifically the playoffs, when the Los Angeles Kings went on their second-half tear and dismantled the Western Conference and knocked off the New Jersey Devils to win their first Stanley Cup. The hockey world was able to get an up-close look at just how good of an all-around player Kopitar is. He was the best player on the Stanley Cup winning team (I thought he Randy Johnson Jersey was more deserving of the Conn Smythe than goaltender Jonathan Quick) and was a driving force behind the Kings' succe s in every phase of the game.He drives po se sion against tough competition. He scores. He wins faceoffs. He has all the talent in the world. And he's a strong, two-way player who is also an excellent penalty killer. Consider that, during the 2012 playoffs, he finished as a plus-three (four goals for, only one against) in four-on-five situations. And it's not like he was playing limited minutes in those situations, logging more than 44 minutes of shorthanded ice time (more than two minutes per game) in the playoffs. He isn't a household name, but he's one of the very best players in the NHL. Has been for a while, and should be for Gio Gonzalez Jersey some time. 7. , 2011-12 box score stats: 79 games, 12 goals, 40 a sists, 52 points2011-12 advanced stats: 1.105 Corsi Quality Competition, plus-13.0 Corsi Relative, 1010 PDO Zdeno Chara has been one of the top two or three defensemen in the NHL for the better part of the past five or six seasons. He's as durable as they come, rarely mi sing games and regularly playing over 25 minutes per night in all situations, serving as a matchup defenseman in even-strength situations, quarterbacking the power play and killing penalties.Over the past three years, he has won a Norris Trophy and been a finalist two other times. When it comes to the eye test, he's easy to notice every night due to his physical play (and his ma sive size) and offensive ability that is highlighted by one of the hardest shots we've ever seen in the NHL. Looking at it from a numbers perspective, he blows almost every other defenseman in the NHL away. During the 2011-12 season, Chara's plus-13 Corsi Relative rating, a plus-minus measure using attempted shots relative to his teammates (in other words: how much better the Bruins were with him on the ice as opposed to Matt Holliday Jersey when he wasn't) was seventh among all NHL defensemen who appeared in at least 40 games. And he did it while playing some of the most difficult minutes in the NHL, against some of the toughest competition and starting the majority of his shifts in the defensive zone. That's a difficult role, and Chara dominates in it. 6. , 2011-12 box score stats: 70 games, 19 goals, 48 a sists, 67 points2011-12 advanced stats: 1.162 Corsi Quality Competition, plus-13.2 Corsi Relative, 1014 PDO There might not be a more respected veteran in the NHL right now than Teemu Selanne. Every person who watches him, interacts with him and follows him simply raves about him on and off the ice. In another five or six years, I think we'll be looking at Pavel Datsyuk the same way.Like his teammate, Henrik Zetterberg, Datsyuk's goal-scoring took a bit of a decline during the 2011-12 season. But it didn't take away from how dominant a two-player that he still is.He's probably not a 30-goal scorer anymore. But he's still a point-per-game player in some injury-shortened seasons in recent years, one of the toughest players to stop one-on-one in the league and one of the best defensive players in the league (three-time Selke Trophy winner). Anytime you have a guy who can serve as a shutdown defensive player, play against the other team's top line and also score a point-per-game, you're talking about one of the best players in the NHL.And one of the most exciting.
